Do you ever become dependent on proton pump inhibitors once you start taking it regularly to control ur reflux?

Especially if you suddenly stop taking PPI after taking it for a long time, does your stomach revert back to pumping out excess acid but at twice the rate as before you started the PPI? i was prescribed some protonix but i'm worried that once i start it, i won't be able to come off of it. but at this point, PPI seems to be the only option i got since none of the OTC antacids work for me? HELP?!?Do you ever become dependent on proton pump inhibitors once you start taking it regularly to control ur reflux?
Good morning Young2n3,

I've had GERD for years but never took Protonix. I've taken Prevacid but then my prescription carrier switched me to the less expensive (for them) Nexium which has been working just as well for me. I've also had several endoscopies over the years to check on my GERD situation.

I hope you tried the more common remedies (no caffeine, no alcohol, avoid acidic and spicy foods, raise the head of the bed, etc.,) first and you just weren't handed a prescription. Generally speaking OTCs are not generally effective on GERD if the lifestyle changes didn't help.

Since I'm not a doctor (I presume your doctor is a gastroenterologist鈥攊f not, ask for a referral from your primary physician) you should discuss your concerns with him/her first. The possibilities of esophageal cancer developing from untreated GERD are real. If the medication is required in your situation, the downside of whichever medication you're prescribed is better than the long range alternative. You may want to visit the information on http://www.webgerd.com/FAQ.htm .

Hope this helps.

Once you go off a PPI, you are worse off then before you ever took it. That is what the research says, but PPIs are prescribed anyhow. Unfortunately, all these type of medicines have either bad side effects or other problems.

In hospitals, if morphine pumps can be controlled by the patient, can't they accidentally overdose?

It just seems dangerous, but I guess I've never heard anything in the news about that happening. In hospitals, if morphine pumps can be controlled by the patient, can't they accidentally overdose?
The machines are very reliable. Note that there's a ';lockout';, so the patient can push the button every ten seconds if he wishes, but the morphine is going to be delivered only at a small dose (usually on the order of 2 mg) no more often than programmed, perhaps every ten or fifteen minutes, and the overall dose over several hours also has a maximum that can be set lower than would be the case if the routine setting were used to its maximum. In hospitals, if morphine pumps can be controlled by the patient, can't they accidentally overdose?
It is infrequent, but possible. The are in intensive care, and watched closely. I have been on one, but used it sparsely as I did not want addiction.
There are set by the doctors that you'll only get just so much Morphine in a certian time period. If you don't need it then you just don't press the button and you don't get any.
No. They're programmed to allow a maximum amount of the drug over a set amount of time.

You can use as much or as little as you like (within parameters determined mostly by your weight), and you can spread the dose out, but you can't overdose.
No, the pump is pre set by they physician to allow a maximun amount that can be given in a certain period of time. They work well for serious pain, but try to use as little apossible as it is addictive. Short term use is fine, and use it so the patient stays comfortable and the pain is manageable.
Basically, to reiterate what has been said, you can't overdose unless the pump has been set incorrectly.

But, and this is important, it is important to use it if you are in pain. The newest research is that if you let pain continue, it trains trains the brain to be in pain and makes recovery slower.

Although real, the risk of addiction for people in intense pain is far less of a risk than the harm that prolonged pain can cause the body. When you are in pain, opiates give relief, not pleasure. When used properly, there is little risk of addiction, and if addiction does occur, it is often the lesser of two evils. [In this respect, House (the TV show) is quite accurate.]

So, don't be afraid to use as much pain medication as the doctor says you may have; the pain you relieve may be pain years from now.
According to the answer above, no.

Why, are you thinking of it? Fed up with work? Family annoying you?

Ashley
Theoretically, yes. But since the pump only gives relatively small, measured doses, the patient will just get too drowsy to keep pushing the button. Most units also have an upper limit (set by the doctor) on how much they will give over a certain time period.
Yea they have metered doses. For an example if you can have 1 dose every 3hrs, and you take your 1st dose at 1pm, the machine will lock until the 3 hours are up. If the patient complains of being in too much pain, the nurse can ask the doctor to increase the frequency or amount or change medications, as long as it is safe for the patient.

edit- They available on other floors, not just intensive care units.
The patient does control when they recieve morphine, but the machine that gives it to them prevents overdose from happening. If you give yourself a dose, the machine won't let you give yourself another for ten minutes. The morphine is probably being given in low dosage, so that would also prevent you from OD'ing.
patient-controlled analgesia pumps prone to misprogramming resulting in narcotic overinfusions there have been some cases of overdose

What is closed valve control(CVC) & open valve control(OVC)&which one is used when in centrifugal pumps?

BASICALLY AT OVC CONDITION PUMP OPERATE AT FULL LOAD TORQUE CONDITION WHEREAS IN CVC IT IS THE % OFBKW AT SHUT OF HEAD DIVIDED BY BKW AT DUTY POINT.THERE IS ALSO A TORQUE -SPEED (T %26amp; N2) CURV FOR BOTH OVC %26amp; CVC.What is closed valve control(CVC) %26amp; open valve control(OVC)%26amp;which one is used when in centrifugal pumps?
There are NC-Normally closed and NO-Normally open control valves. NC is closed for normal operation or for given set point of parameter. If it opens the control parameter gets disturbed. Reverse is true for Normally Open valves. It is truely process requirement that which valve is used where.

If the U.S. ever gets control of Mid-East oil reserves, do you think we'll pay less at the gas pumps?

Dream on.If the U.S. ever gets control of Mid-East oil reserves, do you think we'll pay less at the gas pumps?
absolutly not, getting control of the reserves would create more of a monopoly on it, and thus the governments and wealthy owners could create artificial scarcity.

we would have to pay more taxes too to fund the occupation of the military required to protect the oil infrastructure from those who were robbed of it, who won't take it lying down.

of course it is the corporations who wanted it in the first place and it is they who should pay for it all not the taxpayers. But he who has the guns can do what they want, makes me think of loan sharks or the mafia.

RRRRIf the U.S. ever gets control of Mid-East oil reserves, do you think we'll pay less at the gas pumps?
Nope.$3 a gallon and up is here to stay.
The ignorance on this thread is absolutely stunning. The answer is a little, but primarily because production capacity is already maxed out.
I'm sure the Oil Mafia will cut us a deal.
no we will probably pay more. where I live we are at 3.29 and it is suppose to go up again
No. We're passed peak oil and two oil men are in the white house. Neither party in Congress has any ideas except how to get re-elected.
no because the guys in charge would still claim they didn't have control and then there is always that slippery supp;y ans demand thing with not enough refineries and no new ones it is too easy to manipulate supply and the fore price.
No it is the oil companies gouging the people and that will not change.
NOPE! those prices are here to stay. And stop blaming the Reps...the dems are just as deep into mid-east oil as the reps are.
No. All control goes through the oil companies and they are not willingly going to do anything to adversely affect their profits.

Everyone I know who has been put on it for acid (GERD) has not been able to stop taking it including me. I have a digestive disorder and lost 70 pounds but still have to take medicine for heartburn (GERD). I lived on baby fruit for 18 months and still had to take it. If you can get by without it, don't get started on it. The Dr even removed my gallbladder and I still have to take medication for GERD. Have you tried Gaviscon? It is OTC but expensive. It works better than any other OTC antacid you can buy. Try it before you start Protonix.

Is there anyon out there who has had better luck controlling blood sugar with shots vs insulin pumps?

I've been on the pump for over 5 years now and my blood sugar has been out of controlIs there anyon out there who has had better luck controlling blood sugar with shots vs insulin pumps?
Then something's wrong...I've never met anyone who had better BG's with injections. Have you been seeing a Diabetes Educator? You need to...they can download your pump and meter and help you figure out patterns and adjustments. My A1C dropped a full point and my lows and extreme highs were so much less frequent. Perhaps you need to use the dual wave feature more, perhaps you need to put your cannula in a different area, maybe just some adjustments are needed. Do you do fasting tests periodically to test your basal rates? Is there anyon out there who has had better luck controlling blood sugar with shots vs insulin pumps?
most likely your basal rates, sensitivity, and carb to insulin ratio are not correct. the pump is not supposed to make things worse. you need to talk with your doctor about the levels your insulin is at. you may also need to change the times your basal rates change. also, be sure you keep an eye on your weight. any weight gain or loss can mess with basal rates and your sensitivity and carb to insulin ratio, and they will need to be adjusted.

good luck, i hope things get better for you. i've recently had problems with my pump and insulin levels needing to be adjusted because of weight loss. just talk to your doctor and everything should be fine.
My A1C was an 11 before I got my insulin pump. Now it's a 6.0. I lost 60lbs with my pump to. I love my pump it's changed my life.

It's very odd to have higher sugars with a pump. Often times if you tell your diabetic specialist they will make you test every 3 hrs and write down all you eat. It's a common way to see where the peaks and valleys are throughout a normal day and where you might need adjustments.
I am really suprised - my husband has been on a pump for a few years now %26amp; his sugar levels have never been better. He was really stable on the pig insulin then they changed him to the artificial insulin %26amp; he used to hypo all the time. It was a nightmare till he got the pump.

Why isn't our government doing more to control price gouging at the gas pumps?

What makes you so sure there is price gouging going on? You pay less for gas than almost every major industrialized nation in the world, but you complain about the price as you pump gas into your guzzling SUV. Sit back and realize how good you have it, because just about every European out there would love the opportunity to buy gas at 2.50 or even 3.00 a gallon ... they would consider it a bargin, not a price gouge. Why isn't our government doing more to control price gouging at the gas pumps?
Because a good chunk of what the price is taxes. There is only so much gas that can be produced because enviromentalist have fought every effort to build new oil refineries for more than thirty years, we can't drill of the coast, and we aren't allowed to drill in ANWARWhy isn't our government doing more to control price gouging at the gas pumps?
    You're believing propoganda.

There is no gouging at the pump.

Gas station owners don't make anything on gas, except in volume.

Pumps and valves to control slow fluid flow and very small amounts?

my capstone group is working on a project, we are in need of pumps and valves that are capable of controlling liquid flow almost at the microfluids level, we need to split up about 1 mL into .1 mL increments

the fluid being pumped will be water, it will have microscopic particles (not sure on concentration, but they will be platinum and carbon replica particles for viewing under a TEM.

We will also be delivering and draining methanol, bleach and DI Water into and out of a cleaning chamber., the pumps and valves there do not need to be as precise, however, they do need to be able to control the flow rate to as low as a 5-10 mL/min (maybe lower)

Pumps and valves to control slow fluid flow and very small amounts?
Theres a lot of expertise around you just need to find it

I hope the links helpPumps and valves to control slow fluid flow and very small amounts?
For flow rates that low, you will need a pump designed for analytical applications. The Cole Parmer Masterflex paristaltic pumps would work great for you because they are high quality and very economical. You will need a pump head, a drive, and compatible tubing. They also have accessories like fittings, flow meters, and check valves. Their online catalog is hard to read, so I would call them for proper selection.

My job is pumping up tires at the garage. To impress the ladies shall I say I control an airline?

Yes - and when they say who for, say it is for, give the name of the garage! Then explain it is a joke and then say what you really do. Women will find the job description amusing - and it could be an inroad!

(a number of years ago, my father got into trouble when he flew to the US carrying a briefcase full of rivets. When the Customs Officer asked him what he was carrying, my Dad said he was into screwing. He was told off for making the customs officer laugh!)My job is pumping up tires at the garage. b who u realy are and dont be scared 2 tell the trouth
Maybe not. They might think you are just full of hot air.
let's say you BS to impress a woman. this BS changes your natural behavior. now you find someone you really like but she is only use to your BS persona. it's gonna be hard to slip into your regular person.... Just be yourself if you have to BS to impress a woman she's not worth it. Believe you are good enough just the way you are, self esteem is built from the inside and not by how others see you. be yourself and your true self will shine through. and you will be liked just for you.
    It's done it for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No! because if you end up getting serious with this person then you will have to maintain a lie. Its easy to tell a lie but an alltogether different matter to maintain it. Then you will have to make up some story as to why you are not working at the airline. I would suggest looking for new employment. I didnt realize people still paid people to pump air into tires. Good luck
i'd rather you said the truth because relationships have to be built on honesty
yes you may as long as you are not in trouble!
Sure, and if you really want to impress them, take them on a tour of the airport and when you're done, look at her at say, ';and all this could be yours someday.'; Then tell one of the pilots he's fired right in front of her and she will really love you.
Your a blowhard! or an Airman, Your in charge of inflation.
yes, but that may not be enough. Tell them you plan to take over a small but rich country. Maybe something rich in oil. Hang on, now I know what GWBjr is up to.
yes.but also tell them your job involves a lot of PRESSURE,which you can handle
If all you can do is pump tires, I kind of doubt you're gonna have the smarts to pull that off.
No. A girl wouldn't be impressed when she found out the whole thing was based on a lie. Maybe you should just ';improve'; your job a bit. Something that sounds a bit more interesting but is still what you do. Oh Mr. mattbirt2003, how would you know what would impress a girl more?
My job is pumping up tires at the garage. To impress the ladies shall I say I control an airline?

Yes you can do that , you would not be lying.........you are.in reality -- controlling an airline.

Tell her it is not easy controlling an airline--with inflation up---like it is.

Tell her if she hitches her star on to yours---you can promise she will never tire of you.
It doesn't impress me when people try to talk up their jobs. Take an electician for instance is now called and Electrical Engineer. Only people with Engineering degrees should be called Engineers! So, no, it won't work, don't bother.
I hope they find it as funny as I did!!!
only if your puming up airliner tires... dont lie...
hell go for it you might as well be hung for a sheep then a lamb
    No.

Or of course you once you start talking to a woman and mention this airline, any woman will want to see and importantly experience your ';wealth'; from owning an airline.

    What then?

Say all your money is tied up in Jumbos and you can't get at it until Dumbo comes back from his holiday...

Don't do it..step away from the pun.
Sure, you're largest concern is inflation, and you feel that you really improve efficiency on everything you work on. In fact, you're working to reduce wasted fuel.

Then tell her that people would really have a hard time keeping things rolling without you.

If that all doesn't impress her, tell her you are pretty experienced handling hose. That gets even the most hard to impress ladies. they like a man in control of the situation.
Hehe, I like it - yeah. it's not a lie!
do you think women are stupid? or are you just rattling our chains? I'm pretty sure anyone could tell the difference between Richard Branson and the local garage guy.
no!! don't lie!! it'll come back to bite you in the ****. tell them the truth - you're a mechanic. mechanics are cool. if they have a problem with it then they are just being bitchy - dump them!!
Like it! I think the ladies will soon realise you are blowing hot air!
No, don't lie. Be yourself and don't be afraid to admit what work you do. You should not be ashamed of it. If a woman only cares about your profession you'd only be wasting time with her anyway.
    women don't like liars
Controller of an airline might be too big of a lie!
Yeah - airline controller would do it.....
I think what would work much better would be to tell them that you are only doing that until you finish your degree or whatever!

I suspect that the average women would notice the difference between the two types of people and would therefore be very distrustful of you.

I would go with being honest.

If the fundamental problem is that you are ashamed of what you do - figure out a way to do something better. . . . .

I have an 89 GMC Pickup, the heat blows cool. Electronic controls, new heater core, thermostat and water pump.

The heat will get warm if you are parked and have your foot on the gas or if you are driving but once you stop and let it idle it will go back to cool. The thermostat is installed correctly and the heater core gets hot on both the inlet and outlet sides. The fan works and so does the direction (floor, dash, defrost). Any help would be grealty appreciated.I have an 89 GMC Pickup, the heat blows cool. Electronic controls, new heater core, thermostat and water pump.
If the temperature control valve, which controls the water flow through the heater core is stuck or partially clogged it can cause that. If the flow valve is O.K. then your water pump isn't circulating enough water at engine idle. With low water flow the cold air overpowers what heat the core receives from the water flowing through it. When you speed the engine up the increased speed of the engine causes the water pump to move more hot water through the heater core thereby providing enough heat transfer so that the incoming air is heated enough to make you comfortable. The vanes, on your water pump could be deteriorated from corrosion over the years. A new pump should cure the problem.I have an 89 GMC Pickup, the heat blows cool. Do Rule-Mate automatic bilge pumps have three-wire control system?

Hey guys I want to buy a Rule-Mate 750 automatic bilge pump from west marine for my aquasport. However, I know how unpredictable the word ';automatic'; is when we're talking about a bilge pump so I want to control my pump with a nice 3-way (Auto, Off, Manual On) bilge switch panel made by Rule themselves. However, my logic tells me that the bilge pump will need 3 wires coming out of it for everything to work well. One would be ground, the other would be 12v to the built in float switch and another would be 12v bypassing the float switch for auto on. So, does the pump I want have a three wire system or will I be stuck with two wire system (just Auto/Off)Do Rule-Mate automatic bilge pumps have three-wire control system?
Yes your new Rule-Mate pump will have 3 wires( black-brown%26amp;brown with a red stripe.Black goes to negative, the brown to your Auto and brown-red on the manual.Hope this helps, good luck.Do Rule-Mate automatic bilge pumps have three-wire control system?
Ditch the Rule 750, and get a sensor style 500 or 1100. Sensors are much more reliable than float style, which often get crud trapped in the float chamber, causing either no activation (sunk boat), or continous activation(dead battery first, then sunk boat). Both of these have a controlled on circuit. Remember to add a fuse holder and fuse, they don't come with one.
    All new pumps come with instructions for install%26gt; Make sure all connections are sealed and out of the way for water to get on%26gt;
    it'll have the third wire.

What controls a fuel pump on a 92 astro van??

the pump runs when it wants to.What controls a fuel pump on a 92 astro van??
The duct tape that is holding that piece of crap together. What controls a fuel pump on a 92 astro van??
It is supposed to run like that. The fuel pump needs to maintain a certian amount of fuel pressure. If the vans running ok, theres no problem
Check fuel pump fuse first, next check fuel pump relay, then check fuel pump.. Usually there is a problem with the fuse. I have heard of the relay going bad, if thats the case, I recommend having someone take care of it. If you have the brains when it comes to the engine, its a job that can be done
I don't have an Astro but I do have a Safari, though mine is a 95. I just had this problem fixed, so hope this helps. It sounds like the pump is failing. Mine was intermittent too and that was caused by the pump not being able to hold pressure continually. Unfortunately, the pump is housed in the gas tank which means you or your mechanic will have to drop the tank ( I recommend the mechanic, I did it once and never again!). There is always the chance that it may be your fuel filter which is an easy fix you can do. The filter is located I believe on the frame, drivers side, just about where the door is. The fix ran me about $450.00 for the new pump, so you might try the filter first. I hope this helped :)

So rumor now controls what we pay at the fuel pump?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080513/ap_o鈥?/a>So rumor now controls what we pay at the fuel pump?
Well this will continue to happen as long as we are in Iraq. We are slaves to the oil giants both home and abroad. We need to end our dependence on oil. We have large deposits in ';sacred areas'; that must be drilled. The rights to drill there should be given to small American owned companies.

The trading volumes have beein biased toward rising prices for medium and long-term futures contracts ever since the Administration started running deficits and the fed began easing monetary policy.

Rumors and such might set off a flurry of activity in one day, but that is not what is driving the general trend at this point. Investors are chasing returns and that is driving up prices and that, in turn, is affecting the economy in a way that makes commodities more attractive, and so the negative feedback cycle continues to pump this bubble up.

The smart money diversified into commodity index funds and such back in 2002 when the first Bush budgets passed. Now you are seeing a piling-on by your rank and file investors who are shifting funds around in their 401Ks and IRAs and by speculators who think they can make money off this bubble.
ITs the same thing with insurance...rates increase storm predictions reflect the need...say 10%. If those storms or losses never materialize, they never revert back to the pre-10% increased price....they keep them where they are (in effect earning an extra 10% across the board). The next year rolls through and predictions are made again, so prices increase again.

Its largely a bunch of innuendo and hype, how much is fueld by greed who knows? All I know is that our government has specific restrictions, regulations and ethical standards that are supposed to be met....yet they are rarely enforced and even more rarely punished.
Well, of course...its gas futures and futures are the most volatile of commodities trading...it makes no sense, as the people who delve in the commodities market are not the brightest of bulbs in the first place...they are constantly peeking under the bed and behind the door looking for the bogey man...then base their decisions on his existence even when they can't find him!

Makes you wonder if the gas prices are going up so severely because they are fearful of an Obama presidency...
yeah.. either they are all up in a tizzy.. in which case they are just setting us up for another ';bubble'; if this keeps on... or they are taking advantage of the situation.. in which case ';eventually'; people will get pissed and the government will either take control of the market or will apply anti-monopoly laws ... or it will get outdated and they will lose the farm....(depending on how it plays out between now and then).. at least looking back over history that is how it has happened (cotton, coal, steal, iron, electric.. take your pick)
That is one factor yes, but there are many others. Speculation is just the tip of the iceberg but it changes faster than anything else.

Can asthma be controlled without pump?

hmm i'm not sure if it can be controlled or not but when i was younger i had asthma really bad and i got tired of using the pump so i would sit down and breathe in really heavy like three times then i would take one final deep breath and slow my breathing down and after a few seconds i would be fine but my body would feel kinda weak and i cough few times.

I always guess those were side effects from not using my pump or forcing my breathing to slow down or something dunno. Can asthma be controlled without pump?
yes but it would take a lot longer to ';control'; an exacerbation and for those really big exacerbations, it could kill you. If you don't like the albuterol inhaler there are other options depending on how often you get symptoms.

Any ideas on how to fix my Park Avenue climate control issues? (passenger side only pumps out heat).?

I have an older Park Avenue with dual climate control and the heater/AC isn't working properly. The driver's side will blow heat/AC/vent, but the passenger side will only blow heat (even if we change the climate control from the passenger controls). Does anyone know whats wrong?Any ideas on how to fix my Park Avenue climate control issues? (passenger side only pumps out heat).?
You have a hole in a vacuum line somewhere, or one has came loose, the only way to find it is to take your instrument panel cover off, and pull out the climate control, and try to trace it down...look for a hissing sound. This happened to me on my 1988 Chrysler New Yorker, The vacuum hose had pulled loose from the back of the Climate Control, Good Luck!Any ideas on how to fix my Park Avenue climate control issues? (passenger side only pumps out heat).?
Your ac has 2 doors under there that control how much hot air and cold air is blowing one for each side. The acuater that controls one of those must have gone out. have to remove the dash to get at it. Its about 3-4hours of work. Probably cost about $500-$1000 to fix.. If you want to try and fix it your self go to the dealer and get a factory sevice manual. They cost about $100+ but gives you all the info how to remove the dash and find what is causing the problem. Probably just be easier to take it to a shop if your not experinced with working on cars.

Can I use a Potentiometer to control the flow output of an air simulator pump?

Hi All, basically I would like to know if I can replace a toggle switch on an air pump which selects two different output flow rates, with a potentiometer so that I can manually adjust the flow output myself in small increments or decrements? Any help would be great.

Thanks. Can I use a Potentiometer to control the flow output of an air simulator pump?
if the toggle switch is single pole single throw (spst) then cant seem why not, if its i high power circuit, make sure you use a high rated pot. (or the same rate as the switch.

unless of course, the circuit is digital, and is using some sort of microcontroller or logic gates to drive the circuit, then u r on your own! ;-)Can I use a Potentiometer to control the flow output of an air simulator pump?
A toggle switch simply switches between two separate circuits.

A potentiometers controls the flow of current to a circuit.

If the flow is controlled by some resistor and you now have two separate resistors (or if the toggle switch in effect changes some resistance) and you toggle between them, then you can combine the circuit and use a potentiometer; however, if the flow is controlled by other elements as well, then it will not work. Without a schematic it is difficult to give you more help.
The potentiometer needed to control the voltage for the motor driving the pump would probably need to be very large to handle the current. Trying to run the pump this way may ';current starve'; the motor and cause it to burn out. As the other answer says, you need a schematic of the pump to see if there's any other way to control the motor.

Have you thought of just installing a regulator in the air line to adjust the air rate rather than trying to change the motor speed. This would probably be much easire and more effective.

How can I control my Asthma besides using the Asthma Inhaler (pump)?

Last time I used the Inhaler was 3 months ago, when the weather was changing. It has been raining for 3 days and for 3 days I have been getting asthma and I have to use the inhaler 3 times a day. I really don't want to use it because of the steriods inside the inhaler. How can I control my Asthma besides using the Asthma Inhaler (pump)?
Steam from shower.. Nebulizer worked wonders with me. Theres light therapy that my doctor uses on me sometimes. Umm.. All those medications that u see on commercials are pretty cool although i dont see a difference compared to inhalers. Also some therapy my doctor gave me is if u imagine a balloon in front of u and u spread ur arms out like ur blowing up the balloon when u take a deep breath.. Then u move ur arms in like ur deflating the balloon when u breathe out. Good Luck. Dairy products are actually bad for asthma. Swimming is also great for asthma. Also, don't worry about the steroids in the inhalers.. not much is used. And use the nebulizer only when ur asthma is bad and frequent since nebulizers are more potent. How can I control my Asthma besides using the Asthma Inhaler (pump)?
Ok I know this sounds weird, but my daughter and I both have asthma. We both used to go thru inhalers pretty quickly. Then my holistic doctor turned me onto natural air ionizers. They are basically Mineral salt lamps that naturally ionize the air in your house. I have one in the L.R. In the Kitchen and 1 in each of our bedrooms. Thats about $200 in lamps. We have had them for over a year now and have noticed an extreme difference in our inhaler use. and the light from them somehow seems to make you feel good. Ill give you a link if you want to check it out. Hope this helps, Blessings.

Can you control hydraulic head by pumping water at a certain GPM?

Yes you can. If you pump water from a bore faster than the the well can replenish it, then there will be a dip in the water table (reduction in hydraulic head) around the well. There is an equation that explains it all, but I can't remember whats its called. I remember doing it at uni but its very complicated. Basically it describes the curve in the water table that occurs when you pump too much water. Can you control hydraulic head by pumping water at a certain GPM?
    Yes you can!

But, there is a lot of good characteristic of oil we can use rather than water.

Like you know, water is easy to get corroded (if you use it inside hydraulic head from metal, it will get corroded), and its boiled point is low (only 100 celcius). While oil have a veri high boiled point.

Can anyone tell me how to test and charge the capacitor in the control box for my submersible water pump?

I have a 220v, 3/4 hp submersible well i just installed a little while back. Also installed a control box of the right specifications for it. Both are used however. After the initial installation, I didnt have the pressure tank hooked up yet, so i just closed the main shut off valve and turned the power on to it for a couple seconds to see if it would come on. It did. So I shut it off until I got the pressure tank installed and everything hooked back up a couple weeks later. I then tried to turn it on and nothing happened. I put a voltmeter on the capacitor and it showed a reading, but that reading was less than the chart on the inside of the box stated that it required. I verified that I was getting power through the pressure switch and coming into the box. It actually read almost 260v instead of 220. I dont have a capacitor tester. Can someone please tell me how I can go about testing it and tell me how to charge it correctly before putting it back in the circuit? I'd appreciate itCan anyone tell me how to test and charge the capacitor in the control box for my submersible water pump?
The only way to properly test a capacitor is to have a meter that reads in micro farads.... but in a pinch you can use the ohm reading on your current meter and test the capacitor. The capacitor should have two fittings on the top, place one of the leads on each of the fittings. The reading on the meter should either go up or down. Remember which it does and then reverse the leads.... if the reading on the meter now does the opposite.... you most likely have a good capacitor. (Example Red lead on fitting A and black lead on fitting B the Ohm reading starts at 0 and begins going up .... now put the red lead on B and the black lead on A and the reading should start at a higher value and come down) If this does not happen you have a bad capacitor. If the cap is bad you will want to replace it with an identical type and size capacitor. If it has a metal case it is a run capacitor, if it has a fiber case it is a start capacitor, also the micro farad (uF) and the voltage should be the same or you may get some unexpected results. Good Luck Also, you do not have to recharge a capacitor... it will store the voltage it needs when you power it up..... Also be careful, these things store voltage.... take a screwdriver and short the fittings together before you try to test it!!!Can anyone tell me how to test and charge the capacitor in the control box for my submersible water pump?
Id be more concerned about a match of the control box to the pump than measuring a capacator. Those control panels for submerged pumps are made by the millions, for example, Franklin Electric in Indiana makes about a million a year.

If you have a used box, get rid of the old box when you install a new pump and put the exact box as specified for the submergable.

What you need is a voltage check across the center tap and the power side of the capacator when the circuit is in the start mode. That voltage is only on for about a 3 second period so it is very hard indeed to get a reading. Its that voltage and time setting as a combination that determine the proper starting of that pump. The time of course, is controlled by the electronic switch inside the circuit box. The combo of those two determines the starting of that pump before capacator is switched off and the pump then runs on reguar supplied 220V. All this is much to difficult to measure in an in home environment, its the task of a labarabory equipped to do so . So with that said. Install a new control box and and leave it at that.

On pump failures, it almost 100% due to two problems, on is that box and the electronic switch inside of it that makes and breaks the capacator leg of the power and the second, is the fact that Lightening strikes the pump piping or wiring.

In my area we have a lot of lightening strikes so around the permieter of the pump I have buried a copper ground wire at a radius of about 30 feet and 4 feet deep. This has stopped the problem of lightening strikes and the current pump in there is over 20 years old.
Sears sells a cheap multi meter that reads MFD look for one with a Uf scale. Again always have power off remove the wires connected to the capacitor short the two connections with a screwdriver then test.

Are you sure it is a circuit-breaker and not a contactor (high-amperage magnetic switch)? Contactors can be noisy as they age. And if it is short-cycling it will become even louder. An outside circuit breaker that controls the sewage pump underground. Switches are thumpin up%26amp;down. Problem?
I agree it's probably the control contactor that is making the noise. This may be caused by a switch that is stuck. Only a qualified service person can tell just what the reason is. It depends on the system design about the type of switch and if the system needs to emptied before it is serviced. If it is a stuck switch, it may just be stuck on some material in the tank. It could also be a bad switch, but that is less common. You could go in the system yourself and clean the switch, or pay the service man to do it. It's up to you.

Sounds like the generator is intended for temporary or portable use; is the well pump the only utilization equipment you plan to hook to the generator?

What is the current draw of the well pump motor (FLC), and what ampacity is required to start the motor (LRC)?

You are leaving an awful lot of information out of the question; that usually means you should hire someone to do the job for you. A 30 Amp generator may not be able to provide enough current to overcome the locked-rotor condition and start the pump; especially if you are using it to run other equipment or power other circuits.

Also, a generator requires a transfer switch if it is to be a permanent installation.Generator to control box to well pump wiring?

Remember that just the flow (gpm) is not enough information for a pump. That flow rate is only for a given head (or lift). Every pump has a ';pump curve'; that shows different operating ranges for flow and lift along with the efficiency. A ';system curve'; can be plotted on the pump curve to get actual flow rate. Be careful advertising a specific flow rate.

How does a 2003 Chevrolet Truck vacuum pump brake booster turn on & off? What controls it?

Silverado 1500 5.3 engineHow does a 2003 Chevrolet Truck vacuum pump brake booster turn on %26amp; off? What controls it?
A brake vacuum booster is just a large diameter diaphragm that has one side connected to an engine vacuum source (a port in the intake manifold, usually), and the other side connected to the brake pedal linkage. It acts to boost brake pedal effort by converting the low differential pressure of engine vacuum to higher pedal force by means of the leverage it adds to the mechanical brake pedal linkage.

So, when the engine is running, vacuum is available, and the booster makes it easier to apply the brakes with low pedal effort. Once the engine shuts off, the brake booster may have enough stored vacuum for one or two assisted operations of the brake pedal, but soon thereafter, loses its ability to assist in the application of the brakes, and the brake pedal requires noticeably more effort to achieve the same amount of braking force on the vehicle.

Vacuum boosters look like big metal mushroom tops, about 10 inches in diameter, and are usually mounted up near the firewall on the driver's side, directly above the brake pedal linkage. How does a 2003 Chevrolet Truck vacuum pump brake booster turn on %26amp; off? What controls it?
hey there may be a real tech here Chris W is very correct good job the rest of you are also correct but things are getting a little more complex guys ya gotta try to keep up

again listen to Chris this at the point of time in which we live is sometimes better left to those of us who are trained good luck
The previous answer describes very well how a typical system works. But your vehicle has a supplimental brake assist, basically an electric vacuum pump that will assist the vacuum supplied by the engine if it falls below about 7in hg. What turns it on is the computer, but there is a built in pressure sensor in the pump that determines if vacuum is low. If you see a message ';reduced brake power'; , or ';Service brake booster'; you should have someone with specific knowledge of this system pinpoint the problem. Good luck.
Once you depress your brake pedal the push rod going to the vacuum assist activates it (with the engine running). The valving of the vacuum assist allow the engine vacuum to help push in turn the piston of the brake master cylinder. In this manner, the vacuum assist makes braking an easy task instead of making you push really hard to make the master cylinder do its job.

Does pumping breastmilk instead of directly breastfeeding affect the birth control effect of breastfeeding?

I have read about breastfeeding as a 98% contraceptive. Does this percentage decrease if milk is pumped? (The number of times breastmilk is expressed is still every 2-3hours daily, as if it were relied on the baby's demand.)Does pumping breastmilk instead of directly breastfeeding affect the birth control effect of breastfeeding?
Oh my goodness. That's not even an old wives tale. That's a straight up myth. Breastfeeding does not work as a contraceptive at all! You can get pregnant as soon as you start ovulating again. If you don't want another baby right away, you should use condoms. THEY are 98% effective.Does pumping breastmilk instead of directly breastfeeding affect the birth control effect of breastfeeding?
hmm... it will work the same pumping or actually breastfeeding.. but relying on it alone to prevent pregnancy is not 98%... you need to speak to your doctor cause my friend got pregnant with her second child 2-3 months after delivering her first. she breastfed regularly.. it is common and is happening more and more..
no oxycotin causes the let down of milk if it leaves the nipple then you cant get fertilized
ha ha ha breastfeeding IS NOT a form of contraceptive, seriously, don't buy into that crap. Thats how I got preggo with my son.
It shouldn't, but DO NOT rely on breastfeeding as your only form of birth control! You will have no idea when you ovulate which makes it really risky to only rely on breastfeeding! I got pregnant when my son was 5 months old, and many women get pregnant sooner than that by just using the breastfeeding ';method';...talk to your doc about another type of b/c or use condoms if you don't want another baby anytime soon! Best of luck!
Not being a wise guy here, but you seem to be confused. What has breastfeeding to do with contraception?
There is a form of ';the pill'; you can take that is safe while breast feeding.

I would not rely on hormones to control your ovulation, honestly i dont think it has anything to do with breastfeeding, I think you can get pregnant again as soon as your body is ready, 6 weeks or 6 months, why risk it?
i dont know why dont you drink milk from a cow like everyone else does

  • Do you believe flouride pumped in our drinking water is used as a form of control?

Flouride can cause you to become psychologically and physically placid. The nazis were well aware of this.

What are your views on this?Do you believe flouride pumped in our drinking water is used as a form of control?
    uh, no

Fluoride in the quantities in water has no psychological effect. It takes like 10,000 more concentration to BYPASS the teeth and get in to your body.

Let me put ti this way -- your teeth are like super strong MAGNETS and the flouride in water is like one dot the size of this period . %26lt;%26lt;%26lt; that one

And you would need like 10,000 periods all at once, before even a few of them would clog up the super strong magnets.

You would die or drown long before you could drink that much water.

As for your point about the Nazis, I say show me the proof of that. I think that is just a bogus statement.Do you believe flouride pumped in our drinking water is used as a form of control?
All I know is that my teeth were far better than my parent's were, and that my children's teeth are far better than mine. Flouride is the reason for this.
I think it is more about money then anything else. As a by-product of Aluminum manufacturing, Fluoride is in abundance and needs disposing of, why not just put it in our water supplies to poison people to avoid costly hazardous waste treatment. As far as dental health issues, I grew up on well water, Fluoride free and never had a single cavity.
I think that that could be true about more things than just our water. My advise, purify your water as much as you can. I think soon you'll have the evidence you need, so take care of your own health. Some people can't even be saved from themselves.

Is it possible to increase the amount of breastmilk if I haven't pumped in a week and I take birth control?

If so how?Is it possible to increase the amount of breastmilk if I haven't pumped in a week and I take birth control?
start pumping regularly, drink plenty of fluids. if you are taking a ';regular'; birth control pill, not the mini-pill you shouldn't breast feed. talk to the dr.Is it possible to increase the amount of breastmilk if I haven't pumped in a week and I take birth control?
Just continue to pump (note my name), your body WILL respond as if you are feeding twins if you pump both sides at the same time (even if one of those pumps is a gobbling bundle of love) :)
I encourage you to check with your doctor about breast feeding while taking birth control. I echo the concern of another.

To answer your question about increasing your production, there are some herbal teas that will help. Another thing to remember is that your breasts will respond to almost any stimulation. While feeding works best, your spouse's stimulation during foreplay and sex will also help with your production. Make sure that milk is expressed. Make sure that your breasts are stimulated. Consider herbal teas. Also, make sure you take the correct tea. Some are very specific regarding intended use.
I thought you could not breast feed and take birth control. May be I am misinformed...........
The best way is to feed the baby every hour until the milk increases. Secondly relax and the milk will flow.
Start pumping and feeding as often as you can. It's a question of supply and demand.....more demand= more supply!!

Replaced pressure control switch on well pump, now what's wrong?

We have a 165 foot deep well with a 240 volt pump. About a month ago, we noticed water dripping from it slowly. The pressure read 75 lbs I think my husband turned down the pressure at that point.

Soon after the water pressure in the house dropped off considerable. When you flush, you couldn't completely wash your hands before it ran out. Then leave alone awhile, and it came back. Sometimes when the water went out, you could flush then wait a minute, and it would correct the problem. My husband added more air to the bladder tank. and it worked.

At least until last week . When it got really cold the other night, it happened again, but worse. The pressure gauge was broken, so he replaced it. The points on the switch were burned, so he replaced it today. We went from having slow water to having no water. He says he thinks he got the wires right. One to ground and going left to right red, then 2 yellow wires, then the black. Does that sound right?

Are we missing anything?Replaced pressure control switch on well pump, now what's wrong?
you should only have power going into the pressure switch from your electric panel , normally a black a white and a ground wire . they should go on the terminals marked line . from the pressure switch to a control box you should have another set of wires normally a black a white and a ground wire . these should go to the load or T terminals . Seems to me your pump was building excess pressure and the relief valve is set to release pressure at 75 psi . you should check the nipple going to the pressure switch , remove it and make sure it is clear of rust and sediment build up as this can give the pressure switch a false read, either not reading the correct high pressure ( dripping relief valve ) and not coming on as it falsely reads pressure is satisfied .

Also the bladder tank pressure needs to be set at 2 psi lower than the cut in setting on the pressure switch . check the pressure in the tank when the water is off and tank is completely empty .

You may think, that is going to sound CRAZY, but i would first change the positive battery cable. With all that you have done, it sounds like you are loosing current. Are all the battery cables tight, and you have a good battery ground/ i would look into electrical, it is definitly not fuel, something is shutting down your current!!

    2. Loft tank capacity: 270 liters

    3. Height of the tank above the tap (if that matters): 4.5 feet (1372mm)

Since water from this tank does not have enough pressure required (Specifications describe the adequate pressure as that created by a vertical tank containing 700/800 liters of water) to operate a washing machine, I plan to install a water pump and a automatic control unit that turns on and off the water pump when the tap is turned on to provide the required pressure.

However, the automatic control unit requires that water have a minimum pressure of 1.5 bars to operate the control unit itself. I would like to know if the control unit itself will operate with the tank dimension that I have when this control unit and the water pump is fitted immediately below the tank?

My second question is whether a 1 horse power motor will provide the adequate pressure required by the washing machine?

Can someone provide the formula to calculate the water pressure (in bars) for the given dimension of the tank?I need to know whether an automatic pressure pump (Water pump + motor on/off control unit) will work?
    formula for pressure is

    density x height x gravitational constant (9.81)

u have to put parameters in untis accordingly to get answer in bars

    1 bar= 1kg/cm2

    density of water is 1000kg/m3.

    pls do the calculation accordingly.

THEORATICALLY PRESSURE DEPENDS UPON HEAD OF WATER AND NOT THE QUANTITY OF WATER( that means u can increase the pressure by increasing height. capacity of loft tank would matter for capacity of p/p

1 hp motor seems quiet big.

hw much is ur pump capacity get motor accordingly.

choose the p/p according to size of washing m/c and loft tank.

I don't understand why ur washing machine requires additional pressure, I mean in washing m/c ( i guess house hold) u just need to accumulate water so that clothes can be soaked. if this is case pressure by gravity would do good for u only thing it may take more time to fill the water.

In this problem u have to consider many design aspects. communicate with engineers for same.I need to know whether an automatic pressure pump (Water pump + motor on/off control unit) will work?
    Good.

    Interesting question.

What i feel is the control unit itself will provide you the required pressure as its being set in the air-set of the final control element.
    make easy your process
I wouldn't be tinkering with pumps, pressure switches and pressure vessels. You can buy mains pressure water pump units in different capacities ready to hook up and good to go no hassles and a warranty it will work to boot.

Another question that passes my mind is what evidence do you have that the pressure from an overhead tank is insufficient to run a washing machine, granted it will take a bit longer to fill at a lower pressure but it should work reliably without pumps and stuff. Give it a try before you start spending money.

  • Ford Lincoln 98, is it Air Flow control or Fuel pump problem?

I replaced the whole engine lately with another Ford 2001 engine and I'm experiencing kind of weak engine.

when I ignite the engine and press the gas pedal to the highest speed the engine is like stuck and like suffocated.

in other words the engine stops getting more gas and start to sound like suffocated and almost stopped.

It's surely not a gear problem..I checked on that.

I have two mechanics, one saying it's a fuel pump problem.

the other, checked the engine on computer and said it's air flow control problem.

Who do you think is right?Ford Lincoln 98, is it Air Flow control or Fuel pump problem?
they could both be right to be honest. but when you say the highest speed do you mean going like 120 and it stops?

did you think about changing the gas filter, also maybe you got moisture in your tank.check the plugs and wires.
check you coil pac. if this happens when the motor is at running temp. and not cold
    O.J did it
    fuel filter
my car was doing that and it was the oxigen sensor
Crank shaft position sensor, camshaft position sensor, check the connectors for these sensors. If your vehicle is obd2 compliant, there is a sticker somewhere under the hood that states that, you need to scan for codes even if the check engine lite is not on. Is there a pattern to the stalling problem ?? certain speed, temp. normal or low, etc. also, run a check on your battery and charging system, if the battery voltage is low it can affect the operation of the ecm and sensors. If you can get a computer scan with a graph it will check all your sensors with engine running. Otherwise maybe some mechanik has some spare parts to use for testing and you can check the sensors by replacing them temporarily.
probably the coil. but there is other things that it could be.

the throttle position sensor or a fuel pressure regulator valve

did you check closely at the rotor and cap for cracks. if there is a few miles on them i would change the distributor cap and rotor.
timing chain or timing belt? alternator?
You could have a cracked coil or coils??

How long will it take for me to notice a difference (asthma pump and birth control pill)?

I've just started both these things so I thought I'd put them in the same question.

    1. I just (re) started the birth control pill. I've been on it before but I was just wondering. If it would cause weight gain, how long would that take from the time I started it?

    2. I just got changed from an asthma preventer inhaler (I think clenil or something) 100mcg, to one of 250mcg. The doctor said if I'm not down to 4 puffs of reliever asthma pump a day to come back. How long should I wait before going back if it's not working?

Thanks to anyone who can answer both or either question. How long will it take for me to notice a difference (asthma pump and birth control pill)?
Birth control pills are likely to cause weight gain. For me it took about 3-4 months, but even then it wasn't even noticeable. A few months after you begin gaining weight, your body should get used to it and you'll stop gaining though.

As for the asthma pump, i'd say go back 3 days later if it doesn't work- a week max.

    Hope this helped!

Boiler won't even try to lite? I have an Ideal Classic gas boiler, vented system.Thermo, controls, pump all ok.

I drained the system and replaced a radiator 2 days ago, bled all the radiators and it was working fine. Could it be an air lock in the boiler?Boiler won't even try to lite? I have an Ideal Classic gas boiler, vented system.Thermo, controls, pump all ok.
There are 13 ideal classic boilers in the range, and between 2 and 5 models in each design, but in the main, the overheat stat has tripped, usually on the right hand side of the boiler, if you give exact make and model i will tell you where the reset button is.Boiler won't even try to lite? I have an Ideal Classic gas boiler, vented system.Thermo, controls, pump all ok.
Your boiler would still light even if there was an airlock, but all boilers have an automatic air vent, so there is no air lock in the boiler. You should look to the thermocouple fitting which sits next to the pilot flame. Check that the tip is clean and not worn away, and it is in the pilot flame to get nice and hot. If you don't have a pilot flame , but have electrodes to light the burner, then check that they are sparking. If they are, then your problem is with the gas valve which is failing to open the gas supply to the main burner.
Do as mmpaints said and when it's clean, have a look on thermostat knob next to pilot flame, some time there is a small hole on it which while the pilot flame is on, because on balance between hit ed gas in the tube( thermostat knob is actually a closed ended tube) and the pilot flame, is working perfectly, but as soon as you turn the flame down, ( due to repair or refill of system) that balance will be disturb and it wouldn't work again... if it is so, you have to change the knob, which is like a long (about a meter) of Copper tube, with one end connect to thermostat and the other end sits next to the pilot flame.... very easy to repair.
do you mean the pilot lite wont lite? Have you tried to clean it? It's simple to do, use a safety pin to scrape the junk out or a wire brush designed for cleaning the pilot and a small straw to blow the debris out of it. The additives in the gas tend to build up and give you a lazy flame or no lite at all.

My daughter is a tourism lycensee but currently have poor glycosilade hemoglobin levels because her difficulty to stabilize her glucose blood tests. She has troubles with her blood glucose levels ( hyper and hypoglucemies) apparently because of some predisposition to retain in a not suitable way the insulin she is shoting during the day and during every correction after a test,up to the moment when apparently all this insulint is suddenly delivered producing an strong hypoglucemy. After several changes in insulin types and the combination with oral hypoglucemients (metformina),her doctor is strongly recommending an insulin pump. could anybody comment experiences with this device and please tell me if somebody went thru a similar situation and how solve the problem? My daughter(33 ) is diabetic since 21 .is the insulin pump the right way to control unstables diabetes type 1?

Why does our emergency heat controlled by a heat pump keep blowing the fuse?

It has been so cold that we have been using the emergency heat on our heat pump/central air system but it keeps blowing the fuse. We have to keep going down cellar and switching it back over until it stays and then a few hours later it does it again. Why would it keep doing this and what can we do to stop it?Why does our emergency heat controlled by a heat pump keep blowing the fuse?
Sounds like it is drawing more power than your system can handle. You need to contact an electrician to look at this. Since it is an emergency system, it was probably added on later and not properly tested. If it is a new home, consult your warranty. Why does our emergency heat controlled by a heat pump keep blowing the fuse?
Could be a bad motor pulling too many amps, could be a bad element (assuming an electric furnace), could be improperly wired with too much crap on one circuit breaker. Call an HVAC Tech, if reputable they should be far more well equipped than an electrician to handle your problem.

Can't hear fuel pump turn on and there is no spark. changed the control module and still the same problem.

Crank sensor could be the culprit. Can't hear fuel pump turn on and there is no spark. changed the control module and still the same problem.
look for a relay that goes to the fuel pump or a bad fuse for that same circuit. Can't hear fuel pump turn on and there is no spark. changed the control module and still the same problem.
';Won't start'; is pretty vague. It could be hundreds of posibilities.

Dead battery, Low battery, bad ground wire to engine, bad power wire to starter, bad power wire to battery, bad connection at battery post or terminals, blown fuse, bad key switch, bad starter, bad fuel pump, bad injectors, out of gas, neutral safety switch, seized engine, broken connecting rod, no compression, no spark, bad oil pressure switch, broken timing belt, plugged fuel filter, bad starter solenoid, broken rotor, cracked distributor cap, Anti-theft device, water in/on engine, vacuum leak, bad ignition coil, blown computer, faulty cam or crank sensor ...

When you turn the key to START it what happens?

    1) Nothing happens? (dead battery?, loose battery cables, or it's not in ';park'; all the way.)

    2) You hear a ';click';, but nothing else? (loose battery cables, bad starter, bad starter solenoid, or broken engine)

    3) You hear the starter turning, but the engine doesn't turn? (low battery voltage, bad starter or bad ring gear on flywheel/flex plate)

    4) The starter turns the engine, but the engine won't start up? (out of gas, bad fuel pump, plugged fuel filter, broken timing belt, no spark)

    5) The engine turns over, but very slowly. (weak battery, worn starter, out of engine oil)

    6) the engine turns, but there's an awful banging noise? (something is broken inside the engine)

An insulin pump is so much better than shots. My son used to have to skip treats at school parties, but with the pump he can just add the insulin needed. It is one poke every 3 days instead of 6 a day. The best part is that he can have insulin trickle in all day as needed instead of just at shot times. It has been a blessing for us.Is insulin pump better solution for diabetes control.?
My son's glucose numbers have been soooo much better with the insulin pump! His quality of life is much improved. The pump allows so much flexability in what he eats and when he eats. He says he just feels better all around. A life changing device! The next step is he's getting the little sensor thing (I forget exactly what it's called at the moment) that goes along with his pump. He uses a Medtronic pump and it's been a good experience so far.
Yes but only if you are willing to test your sugars ALOT! Diabetics who go on pumps and are not willing to test often will usually have worse control than people using shots. Most pump users test 8+ times a day and adjust their basal rates and boluses based on what they are eating, how much exercise they are getting, stress in their lives, etc....It soun ds like you are doing well with the pump, keep it up! I bet you will see your A1C's go down as you get better at using it!
No. Better solution is to do regular exercise, diet and then medicinal control for your good health if u are a type 2 diabetic of 1st stage. If you start using insulin you will be a dependable person on it.

Need technical help with troubleshooting tips for water pump and controls for solar water heating system.?

The lights at the control box indicate power there, but the pump does not appear to come on (even when switched to ';manual mode';). How do I determine if the problem is in the pump, or in the control box? There are no obvious frayed wires etc, and no other apparent damage. Any helpful suggestions will be very much appreciated. The pump is just pumping oil back to the tank when you are not using it. So it is probably not under any load. I wouldn't think it will harm the pump. What does cable controlled have to do with it not running. Is the pump supposed to be able to shut off?I have an old western snow plow that's cable controlled and my pump will not stop running?

  • I've had RSD for 20 plus years and have a pain pump is there any way else to control the pain w/out oral meds?

The disease has spread to both arms and legs I'd like to know of a way to keep my pain at a 5 or under without all the medsI've had RSD for 20 plus years and have a pain pump is there any way else to control the pain w/out oral meds?
I'm sorry for your situation. I've had CRPS/RSD since I was 14 and now have it in all four limbs. I am struggling to find a way to control my pain full stop, even with oral medications. I have a spinal cord stimulator, but it is no longer working properly and I am unwilling to go through yet more surgery to try to correct it. I also have a pump and take oral medications - Oxycontin (and Endone for breakthrough pain), Topamax and Mobic. I do weekly treatment with a physiotherapist - I have very severe dystonia in my feet and ankles, so most of my physio consists of gentle massage and stretching of the areas that aren't permanently contracted. I also do as much physio and desensitisation work on my own at home as I can do without flaring my pain levels. However none of it really works for me - my pain levels are a constant 8 or 9 and I can't remember the last time I had a decent rest, never mind sleep. The only think I have found some relief from is the extreme sensitivity to touch.

Icesk8er's suggestion of ketamine is a really good one. It was a major no-no for me - I had an allergic reation to it and it had to be stopped within minutes - but I know many people who've been helped by it. The hyperbaric oxygen one - who knows. I know several people who've tried it for CRPS-related ulcers and say that it does nothing at all for their pain. A few say that it makes their pain a lot worse, so I'd be wary of trying it.

The only other thing I can think of is asking your doctor whether s/he can alter the dose of drug in your pump and/or add additional drugs in and see if that can give you any relief.

All the best - I really hope that you find something.I've had RSD for 20 plus years and have a pain pump is there any way else to control the pain w/out oral meds?
What types of treatments have you tried? Have you tried anything like the keatmine or lidocaine infusions? I had the low dose ketamine infusion and I was put into full remission, and I have been in remission for about a year now. Have you tried anything like the hyperbaric oxygen therapy, physical therapy, or a spinal cord stimulator? Another thing that helped me to manage my pain was to work with a pain management psychologist. It really helped me in learning how to deal mentally with the pain so I didn't have to take as many pain meds. Good luck!
The doctor I work for is the top RSD doctor in the southeastern United States. He treats without narcotics at all. Check out our website-- piedmontpmr.com . You can even e-mail him thru the website. Hope this helps.

Insulin pump users... what pump do you use, how has it changed your life, does it give you better control...?

Please share with me. My doctors are beginning the paperwork process to see if my insurance will cover it. I am cautiously optimistic... Thanks!Insulin pump users... what pump do you use, how has it changed your life, does it give you better control...?
    Hello,

I use the Delco ';Cozmo.'; It is the one that is water resistant so I can take a shower with it on. It also has the blood glucose meter that slips on the back of the pump. Very nice and convenient.

How has it changed my life? First of all .... there is no more needle sticks for each meal or each adjustment of blood sugar levels. That is wonderful.

Secondly ..... all of the figuring is taken care of by the machine. Enter the meal carb grams or units (your choice) and the machine figures the suggested amount of insulin for that meal.

Thirdly ..... It keeps great records that are printable on your computer (if you have the program that is sent with the pump). You can also change settings for your meter on your computer and it then interfaces with the pump, entering that info into your pump. (You'll need to purchase the infrared interface unit for your computer in order to do these things. It's not expensive).

The control that it allows is great. It makes it easier to level out those nasty high and low peaks and dips. Testing is easy and that helps the control too. It is not one of those that has the constant blood testing/monitoring but it is easier than befor.

The worst part of it is sleeping with it on, though that has not been bad. I just tend to roll a lot and sometimes I roll over on it. It is not easily damaged so it's not been a real problem.

Good luck and I'd say go for it, whatever brand you pick.

KevinInsulin pump users... what pump do you use, how has it changed your life, does it give you better control...?
I use a Minimed 508. However, this pump is 8 years old and about to be retired. I'm currently processing the paperwork to get a new pump. I'm getting a Minimed 722 (without the continuous glucose monitoring as my insurance will not cover that at this time). I hope to have my new pump in a few weeks and be on it by the end of October.

Being on the pump has given me much better control. I feel better, have more energy, have been able to maintain my weight more easily and all around, I just love it.

Being on a pump takes getting used to. There are pros and cons but to me, the pros far outnumber the cons. The only things that can be inconvenient are where to put the pump if you are wearing a dress (if you are female), what do with it when you go to the beach or pool, how to deal with itchy skin during the summer months from the infusion set tape and the accidental tangle-ups than can happen when sleeping.

I can't ever see myself going back on multiple daily injections. I will never regret getting a pump. I love mine and to me, it's just a part of me..like my pancreas used to be.

    Good luck!

    EMT
I use the Minimed Paradigm and I love it! I've been diabetic since 9 months old - 56 years - and have been pumpimg for 12 tears. As long as I remember to test often my control is great. I couldn't ask for better A1cs. It does take some getting used to especially while figuring out your basal rates. But if you can hang in there and stick with it the benefits are worth it!

    Good luck!!
I use the Animas IR 1250 (I had the IR 1000 until last year and had that one for about 4 years or more). Animas is the company that the insurance company I had way back when would pay for, so I had to go with them. But I have been very happy with them. The pump I have now has a food list on it that has the carbs for each food (you can add foods and edit foods on your computer), so when you select the food and how many servings of it you had/are going to have, it will tell you how much insulin you need to give for that food (you can have up to a certain amount of foods for each bolus).

The nice thing about a pump is that you don't have to give shots all the time, or measure them up when you are out and about. You get used to it in time and you almost forget you even have it attached to you! I did this once this past year as I have gotten so used to it!

Before I got on my pump, my A1c was about 9-10%, if not higher. Now they are between 6 and 7%. I have sooooooooooo much more energy, I have been able to lose weight easier (I am still overweight, but not as bad), have much better control, and don't have to stop and think about how much insulin to give for meals or even about having to give myself a shot (I have forgotten those so many times and gotten into so much trouble blood sugar wise becasue of it). I can eat when I want without being on a rigid schedule (I can even sleep in when I want to and not worry about my blood sugar). I can eat sweets and have insulin right away (of course, this has to be in moderation as with anything else) and my blood sugar will stay in the normal range.

It takes a bit of time to get used to sleeping with a pump on (at least it did for me). I have a belt type of pouch thing I got from Animas that I wear 24/7 (except when showering) so the pump doesn't have to be put into a pocket and I don't have the tubing sticking out anywhere. It looks more like a pager than a pump!

Just be sure to go through a good training session and work closely with your team to learn how to use the pump, etc. You will also need to test your blood sugar quite often while on it (I test mine 5-8 times a day) since it is more like having your pancreas working than it is with the shots.

I can tell you that I will NOT go back to shots (unless something happens with my pump or I cannot afford the supplies, which has happened a few times). I have horrid control on shots (end up having 6-8 shots a day) and prefer the good control with the pump.

Good luck! I am sure you will do fine with a pump. They are a great device for those of us with diabetes!
i'm not to crazy about being hooked up to a machine all the time, but it's better than 8 shots a day.

May you soon be well, out of the hospital and off the opiate.

Apparently, some ';jarhead'; was passing out coins that had some ';Christian'; message on them and the Muslim locals took offense.

It's hard to understand why a people whose whole lives have been turned upside down by an invading army so as to cause a civil war and destroy most of their economic base would not welcome with open arms one of the invaders who was telling them that they were going to hell aand worshipping a false god...go figure.
First off, I'm sorry you're in the hospital. If it's bad enough you need a morphine pump it has to be bad. My condolences.

Now onto the issue: It's about time they started cracking down on that Christian evangelism in the military. It's bad enough when our own soldiers are the victims of the out-of-control proselytizing or worse (read Jeremy Hall), but when the people we're at war with are being hounded it's way over the top. Did anyone ever consider this is not helping matters over there?
What a doofus that soldier was - is he deliberately trying to provoke violence? Slap upside the head, that boy needs.

I've been out of the loop as well, for less deleterious reasons (mom's birthday was yesterday) so this was the first I'd heard of it as well.

Any idea what's wrong with you yet, SO12G?
I don't do this normaly, but:

Here is one of my recent poems. For you.

    Tinuviel

    Fingers caressing at impress

    Accustom to grace and eloquence

Radiance emitting from aura of spirit

More brilliant in the province of twilight

And adoring the manic fanning of the eye-lash

    Spent is my first step

    Moving in wonder

    Timorous to ponder yet

Her hero burned into my eyes

    One orange summer night

Upon yet another sofa of summit

    And behold!

    The mask of cowardice

    Upon my face

    No Just done though

    Imminent current

    Echoes the mirage

    My core in wanting

    Swayed to deceive

    My mind each hour

    And all communal wisdom

    Put to bed

    So dreams of Ivory Skin

    Sanguinary Lips

    Enveloped in Raven Silk

    Spilling like curtains

    Over a starlit window

    On a summers night

    Will do for the winter.

    : )
I'm sure you'll get better soon. Ask someone to bring you a extraordinary book (helps me a lot) called The Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peale. Please do it, read it carefully, or better saying, study it, and then e-mail me and tell me about the results. There's a hole chapter about cure. You'll see how powerful you are. Do it please and then we can chat.

    Thank you.

edit: Ok I read the article and as much it pains me to admit this, the Muslims are right. That soldier has no right to disrepspect the culture and lives of those people. He was not sent there for that nonsense.
    Here's an article.

What kind of pump should I use for a project that requires me to pump honey at controlled speeds.?

I am building a machine to fill jars with honey and have the controls necessary to control stepper motors and jar placement. I need a pump that can pump food stuffs at controlable rates at a continuous rate. From what I have a read, a gear, or lobe pump would be ideal. What woudl be a good source of such a pump? What kind of pump should I use for a project that requires me to pump honey at controlled speeds.?
Viking makes very good gear pumps, and I think they sell ones that are food contact rated.

Note that gear and other positive displacement pumps can reach very high pressures if deadheaded, with consequent hazards. Viking will sell you one with a relief valve built right into the pump head.

So instead of having any shutoff valve downstream of the pump, use a 3-way valve and bleed the pressure back to the supply tank.

You are going to need some serious pressure to get the honey into the jars at a reasonable speed, or perhaps if you warm it....

THere at least used to be an annual food and packaging equipment show annually at McCormick Place in Chicago.

Pfaudler at least used to make some nice filling machines. What kind of pump should I use for a project that requires me to pump honey at controlled speeds.?
I think the best one you can use is gear pump or maybe if high pressure is required you can use ram(piston) pump.

but I think gear pump is more use full
It also has to be food grade and fully cleanable.

Start at www.mscdirect.com and www.grainger.com, both are industrial parts suppliers. Or Google for 'food grade pumps'
A screw or lobe type is preferred for clean application such as this. A VSD can be used to control speed.
